Washington [US], Jan 16 (ANI): Primetime Emmy-winning actor Brian Cox has called out several celebrities who rubbed him the wrong way, including ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star Johnny Depp.
According to Page Six, in his new memoir “Put the Rabbit in the Hat,” Scottish actor Brian Cox called out many actors in the Hollywood film fraternity and in particular actor Johnny Depp for manhandling him.
“It would have been a money maker, but of all the parts of this movie it was the most thankless,” Cox wrote, of the Governor’s turndown in the ‘Pirates’ franchise, which ultimately went to Jonathan Pryce. .
“Also, I would have ended up doing it movie after movie and I would have missed all the other great things I did,” he added.
He continued in excerpts obtained by GQ’s Page Six, “Another thing about ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ is that it’s really the ‘Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow’ show, and Depp, although I be sure he is, is so exaggerated, so overrated.”
The ‘Succession’ actor continued, “I mean ‘Edward Scissorhands.’ Let’s face it, if you show up with hands like that and pale, scarred makeup, you don’t have to do anything. And he didn’t. And then he did even less.”
The Golden Globe winner went on to suggest Depp’s star power is slowly fading, adding, “But people love him. Or they used to love him. They don’t love him as much these days, though. sure. If Johnny Depp went for Jack Sparrow now, they’d give it to Brendan Gleeson.”
Cox also took the time to praise director Spike Lee, who the star said put actor Ed Norton “in his place” while filming “25th Hour” in 2002.
“Ed Norton was in the movie and he’s a nice guy but kinda boring because he considers himself a writer-director,” Cox wrote.
“He and I had this scene in the bar owned by my character. Spike set it up impeccably, but Ed came in and said, ‘Now I’ve been working on the script and I have some ideas. and I would like you to think about it. I rewrote some stuff in there…” the actor said.
“Spike was like, ‘Oh, well, let me see.’ He glanced at Ed’s notes and then said, “Well, that’s very interesting. Okay, so what we’re going to do now is…” and put Ed very firmly in his place,” Cox concluded. (ANI)
