As crossover comedian, Omowunmi Dada has acted in several Yoruba and English films.
Some of the movies she has acted in are: The Ghost and Everything, Oga Bolaji, Diamond in the Sky and Ayinla Omowura among others.
However, it seems that Omowunmi has had enough of Nollywood, now her dream is to take over Hollywood.
In this interview, she explained the reasons why she usually turns down film scripts and why acting for her is not just about talent, but a calling. Please take advantage of it.
You are a lover of traditional films, how well do you think this projects the image of Nigeria, considering that our image is not well represented abroad?
Art and culture, cinema or music is a ministry for human emancipation, for telling stories and for changing the narrative. We take it one day at a time, and we will get better. More importantly, it starts with you and me being intentional about the things we do on a daily basis.
You are passionate about the way you take on the roles, how have you been able to develop this passion?
I have always been passionate about art. For me, it’s not just about talent; it is a ministry. I’m very intentional about the type of scripts I take, the type of stories I’m a part of. I turned down a lot of scripts. But the truth is, when you don’t know where you are going, everything will look like the way. But when you know where you are going, from the start of your career, you channel your path and you are very intentional there. Sometimes it sounds like “what are you doing?” But if you have a bigger picture in mind, you’ll definitely get there. Nothing good comes easy.
What could make you reject a script?
If I don’t believe the story, if I don’t like the script itself and don’t believe what it preaches, I will turn it down. It’s not a shadow for any producer or director; I know that day by day we are improving and telling better stories.
What dream role are you looking forward to playing?
I dream of acting in Hollywood films.
How will you define your style?
My style is comfortable, classy and avant-garde.
What fashion item can’t you live without?
It can be shoes or bags.
What are your hobbies?
I like listening to music and sleeping.
