Carol Channing Website--with Updated Info--Has Moved
www.carolchanning.org
Previously
located at www.carolchanning.net, the website features a biography, photos,
booking info and information about the Hello,
Dolly! star's one-woman show "The First Eighty Years are the Hardest," as
well as on her new scholarship foundation.
"The First Eighty Years are the Hardest," first performed in 2003, received a
hit run at Feinstein's at the Regency last fall. "An unplugged evening that
follows a simple format, Carol offers ninety minutes or more of memories,
humorous storytelling and, of course, several of her signature tunes, including
'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend,' 'Little Girl From Little Rock' and, of
course, the title song from Hello, Dolly!,
that brings the audience up close," according to the website.
Channing recently joined 23 California state universities in announcing the
Foundation of the Doctor
Carol
Channing Endownment of the Arts. The star, who in 2005 received an honorary
doctoral degree at the 44th annual California State University's Stanislaus
Commencement ceremony, "has been extremely involved with programs at CSU
Stanislaus. Now, Channing, who has devoted her life to entertaining millions of
people around the world, has expressed a desire to devote a large part of her
remaining years to teaching and performing in California schools. That endeavor
will start with her October 8 performance at the Bernell and Flora Snider
Recital Hall at CSU Stanislaus entitled 'A Salute to the Arts.' The funds will
be used to offer scholarships to students showing the aptitude and talent for
furthering their education in the arts."
Channing received a 1964 Tony Award for her iconic performance in
Hello, Dolly!, as well as a 1968 Special
Tony Award and a 1995 Lifetime Achievement Tony; she was also nominated for her
work The Vamp, Show Girl and
Lorelei, a revisal of her earlier hit
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She was also seen on Broadway in
Lend an Ear and
Wonderful Town, and starred in two
revivals of Hello, Dolly! Her film and
TV credits include "Alice in Wonderland," Sgt.
Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and
Thoroughly Modern Millie. "Just Lucky I Guess: A Memoir of Sorts" is her
autobiography.
